To commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the ending of the First World War the Museum put on an exhibition of Masonic Jewels and emblems created to mark this event.

A Memorial of Gratitude
To quote: "H.R.H. The Duke of Connaught & Strathearn, K.G., M.W. Grand Master,
inaugurated in June 1919, the Appeal for funds to erect a perpetual Memorial
of gratitude to Almighty God whereby we can render fitting honour to the
many Brethren who fell during the War,” and suggested that no better memorial
could be created than the building of a great central Masonic Home in
the Metropolis of the Empire, dedicated to the Most High, and worthy of the
traditions of the United Grand Lodge of England.
Grand Lodge, at the next Quarterly Communication, appointed a Special
Committee for organising the Appeal thus made to the Craft, and that body has
ever since been engaged on the work, reporting progress to each succeeding
meeting of Grand Lodge."
Funding the Memorial
An appeal was made to each individual Brother to help in this great
under-taking, in the hope that by the time the Foundation Stone is
laid the money required to build the memorial would be available.
EVERY subscription, of whatever amount, will cordially be welcomed,
A total contribution of Ten Guineas would qualify a Brother to be given a Commemorative
Medal, illustrated in the display, which was inscribed with his name and Lodge number or rank. One hundred guineas will qualify for the Medal in gold. The Medal, which will
form a permanent memento of the part taken by the Brethren in supporting
the Grad Master’s Appeal, may be worn on all Masonic occasions.
A Lodge had the opportunity
to be associated for all time with the fund raising. A Lodge which raises
a total contribution, including its own donation, amounting to an average
of Five Guineas per member, will have its name recorded in the Building,
while an average of Ten Guineas per member would, qualify as a Hall Stone Lodge,
and each successive Worshipful Master of the lodge would be entitled to wear a
Hall Stone Jewel
